News from G. Lufft Mess- und Regeltechnik GmbH

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

Russia has a total area of more than 17 million square kilometers and a road network with a total length of more than 500,000 km, a true paradise for the use of road traffic safety systems - especially in the proverbial Russian winter. oAG Moskowskije Dorogi was established for this purpose in 2002. Its objective: to increase traffic safety on Moscow's roads by developing, planning and installing de-icing spray systems (DSS). In the eight years of its activity to date, the business has grown to become the leading producer of DSS systems, holds six patents on its product SOPO®, and has all the necessary licenses for designing, installing and operating the equipment. Moskovskije Dorogi is currently developing technical equipment for highways: automatic weather stations, complex traffic management systems and control systems for toll roads. Lufft was selected as a partner at an early stage - and since then Lufft sensors have been integrated into all Moskovskije Dorogi systems. You can find more news from Russia and other exciting topics on the subject of measuring and control equipment made by Lufft in our electronic "Lufft-Post". Enjoy your read!

De-icing Spray Systems in Russia

oAG Moskovskije Dorogi is Russia's leading producer of DSS systems under the patented name of SOPO®. The equipment is designed for automatic early spraying of de-icing agents, i.e. timely prevention of the formation of ice or snow covering is ensured on the basis of weather forecast data for the area where the equipment is installed. 11 DSS systems are currently in operation in Moscow and the regions of Nizhny Novgorod, Perm and Kazan. In Perm, SOPO® guarantees traffic safety on the 1.7 km long, six-lane Krasavinskij Bridge over the river Kama. Lufft weather sensors give reliable service here, in the harsh conditions of the Russian winter.

Comprehensive Certification is a Prerequisite

Russian regulations are strict – and oAG Moskovskije Dorogi complies with them all. The company offers a full package of services from project design through construction and installation to commissioning and maintenance, and can produce the required certification.

Ice Warning Systems in Modular Construction

The "Sorotschji gory - Shali" toll road project for the Republic of Tatarstan was commissioned four years ago. oAG Moskovskije Dorogi has already supplied three DSS systems, and this year the associated ice warning systems - equipped with the Lufft WS600-UMB and IRS31-UMB road sensor – were put into service. At the customer's request, the ice warning systems are of modular design. Thus, functionality was expanded by the installation of additional sensors. Seven more systems will be installed by the end of 2010.

Road Weather System on the M7 Highway

The M7 highway from Moscow to Nizhny Novgorod has a length of about 900 km. By the end of 2010, it will be equipped with a total of 19 ice warning systems, all sending data to the central road weather system. A system consists of the WS600-UMB, two IRS31-UMB road sensors and a camera.

A System is only as good as its Software

The software to monitor and control de-icing spray systems was jointly developed by oAG Moskovskije Dorogi and the Russian Central Aerological Laboratory and is constantly updated to improve prediction accuracy. Using uniform methodology for regional forecasting, it provides reliable ice formation predictions to the installed ice warning systems and is therefore a crucial element of the operating system.
